The Moez Masoud Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Education was established in 2014 for the purpose of promoting scientific research and developing education in the MENA region. The Foundation encourages objective scientific research that seeks to be free of philosophical bias. Specific emphasis is given to research pertaining to questions of origin, via cosmology, biology and neuroscience. Projects which we are currently supporting include:
- Rupert Sheldrake, the English biologist and author, is currently researching Faraday Wave patterns looking at memory effects in fluid which will be published as a peer-reviewed paper in Water Journal.
- We will be publishing an Arabic translation of the book 'Evolution as a Religion' by the English moral philosopher Mary Midgley. We will also publish an Arabic translation of Rupert Sheldrake's book 'Science Set Free.' We aim to have both books published in 2018.
The Foundation also encourages research that pertains to critical future global issues, such as AI, bio-ethics and climate change. Education-related initiatives in the MENA region include curricula development, the prospective founding of philosophy academies, and sponsoring of academic conferences, debates, and youth events. Emphasis in the education arm is given to gender justice in the MENA region. Projects which have been supported include:
- Funding for two community leaders from Cambridge UK, to travel and attend a week-long leadership and personal development programme in Fremont, California.
- Funding for PhD research by Egyptian student, Ghada Darwish, to study 'Malaria in North Africa - a bio-arhcaeological approach'.
